This posted isn't about Brazil specifically but I couldn't find another forum more appropriate.
I'm flying from Australia to Brazil & have already booked & paid for my tickets. I'm heading over the Olympics with my family and I assumed incorrectly that the prices for flights would skyrocket as time went on. I pretty much booked as soon as the tickets became available and now, the prices have come down considerably (there's a sale with LAN at the moment).
I paid about Aud$9500 with Flight Centre. Currently, I could buy the same tickets for about Aud$6,000 so I'm down about $3,500!!!
I've checked the terms & conditions of the tickets which say there's a $300 cancellation fee for each ticket ($1500 total) so I'm thinking about cancelling and re-booking to hopefully save some money. But I'm not sure if they will let me do this.
The T's & C's quote:
"Cancellations to International bookings (excluding Trans-Tasman bookings) will incur a fee of $300 per passenger per booking in addition to supplier fees."
"Cancelled bookings may also incur supplier fees, which can be up to 100% of the cost of the booking, regardless of whether travel has commenced. Supplier fees may also apply where a booking is changed and when tickets or documents are re-issued."
Do they need a valid reason for cancelling the flights (I know I don't have one) or is it pretty straight forward?
I don't want to ask this to F.C. and say the wrong thing.

The $300 is a Flight Centre fee, the airline may give nothing back depending on the condition of the ticket. None the less speak with flight centre, they won't care what your reason is.

You may also want to check with your credit card conditions, possibly outside the window of time, but some do provide purchase guarantee where if the price is lowered they will credit you the difference. 28 deg MasterCard has this as an opt in feature.
