Hi,

I'm a beginner so not looking for the biggest waves, just the place that has most surfable days basically.
Consistency in surfable waves more important than size of the waves.
I understand Santa CAterina has the biggest ones.
That Itacare and the sao paulo - rio coast are also good as well as Pipa in Natal.

I just want to avoid booking an expensive flight, pousada and surf camp and end up surfing very little or in bad conditions . . .

Thanks for your tips.

One of the best places (in my mind) to learn is down in Barra da Lagoa. Its a consistent right hander that is usually pretty small and easy to manage for a newbie. By consistent its always the same shape and form. Its kind of like a point and goes for a while. Its where I think is best to learn (and there are lots of schools there). Its not a 'fantastic surf wave'. But its a wave to learn on. Once you get better, thats when you can start going elsewhere but theyre the best to learn.

Itacare is a great place as well. Though the waves are a little less consistent (in that they break differently a lot). You have Saquarema north of Rio that is pretty famous for its surf, though not sure thats the place to go to learn. They probably have spots as well. Rio has some spots too. As do places near Paraty (Trindade nearby is a small surfing spot).

This mentions a couple good places i think, (in the Active Adventurers section) and a couple other things too for when you're not in (or hopefully on) the water.
