I've been trying to find comprehensive info on beaches in fortaleza, but I don't see much besides Jeri or city beaches.

I'd like to spend one month in fortaleza in a more remote/quite location with very nice wilder beaches (read: no restaurants, few people, clear blue water, probably less surfy and more relaxing), but also in close proximity to downtown/various activities (10-20km).

However, I don't want to end up either in bad neighborhood or too expensive area.

I'm currently in Ponta Negra Natal (going to Pipa tomorrow) and I don't like the city beach. Buzios and Tabatinga are nice areas, though. So i'd like to end up in something similar to Tabatinga in Fortaleza.

What I noticed, however, in Brazil is that most beaches are average. Water is greenish, muddy etc. Fernando de Norogna the likes are too expensive with nothing to do, but swim, tan and eat))

Will appreciate help from those who have some info.

Why anyone would want to spend a month in Fortaleza is completely beyond me but presumably you have a compelling reason like a witness relocation program or a desire to explore the real meaning of ennui.

The beach most people think of is Praia do Futuro just to the south of the city. Personally I think it's fairly so, so. Very popular, so no not deserted but if you want somewhere close and with amenity that's probably about as good as it gets. The city beaches are dire.

The beaches are better in Bahia btw.

Why? Because I've made a mistake to come to Brazil for 2.5 months and I'm tired of moving around trying to find a place where I could stay until the Carnival in Rio. Since I'm already here and Fortaleza seems to be a very popular destination with supposedly nice beaches. If I cannot find anything decent there, I will just go back to Natal probably.

I've been to the supposedly great Recife and I was very disappointed in the city itself. So I'm even more so reluctant to go to Salvador. Southern Brazil is ridiculously overpriced... you get the idea )))

Which areas in Bahia would you suggest? I don't want to stay far from metropolitan area neither do I want bad beaches.

See if you can find a bookstore that has the Guia 4 Rodas annual guide to beaches. It includes over 2000 beaches from south to north along the whole coastline, with descriptions of each, and maps.
Other than that, for such a discerning traveler who considers Brazil's beaches to be average (in comparison perhaps to some accustomed Black Sea resort?), and has stated such opposing criteria, I wouldn't presume to recommend any I consider great.

Your presumption is as wrong as it gets. I compare to the Caribbean/Miami/Spain and similar. I'm yet to see a beach that comes any close to the above. What's opposing about my criteria?

And just for the record, there are much much better wild beaches in very small villages on the Black Sea nobody knows about. The rest is very similar to what I see in Brasil: muddy water, tons of people, overpriced rent etc. The only real difference is that it was much safer in the Crimea than Brasil, but Brasilian mentality is 100 times better than russian bs.
