Single traveller, will be in Porto Alegre for the Aus v Holland game and in Curitiba for Aus V Spain. I had intended to spend a few days in Florianopolis between games but given that it will be winter and not that warm, I am now unsure what to do. Would be interested to hear from other travellers that will be in Brazil around this time to hear what your plans are to fill in the time between games.
Cheers,

It depends on what you like to do. There is a lot of stuff to know on the way do Porto Alegre to Curitiba.
Are you going by bus? rented car?
If you are going to drive to Curitiba, you can stop at "Aparados da Serra", a national park. Google it.
Then you can go to Florianopolis. Even in winter a stop there is wonderful as it doesnt get ugly cause it isnt hot :)
Also you can visit some German "colonized" cities on the path from Florianopolis to Curitiba. In Curitiba you can enjoy the nightlife and also visit the Vilha Velha State park, 70km away from the city. Google it and see if you like.

Hope it helps.
cya.

If you like night life then you should visit Florianopolis and also Balneario Camboriu to go to the many night clubs there. These two cities are known for having the best electronic music clubs in Brazil. But even if you don't like electronic music, there are many other options of parties to go.

Also, if you love to surf, then you can enjoy the beaches of Florianopolis. A lot of surfers go to the beach in the winter. Just put on your wetsuit and have fun.

Hi rc_traveller,

I'm also a fellow Australian who is travelling solo to the WC. I'm going to the Chile and Holland matches whilst basing myself in Florianopolis between these games. I've also booked same-day flights to Curitiba for the Spain match although I'm yet to secure a ticket! Where abouts are you from? Let me know if you wanted to catch up for a beer somewhere!

The news said that 850 Australian fans will be based in Florianópolis. They're going to stay at Costão do Santinho Resort.

Thanks to all who have posted :) I have opted not to go to Florianopolis and to travel directly to Curitiba on the 20th June as I have not been there before. Xavier - would be happy to catch up for a drink. I am not entirely sure how to send a private message through this forum though... Any ideas how I can do that?
