Hi. For reasons too dull to go into, I have a few weeks in which to travel at the end of February/beginning of March, and was planning to go to Latin America as it's been almost ten years since I last visited that part of the world.

Bolivia is very near the top of my list of places to go, and I was on the point of buying a ticket earlier when I saw the reports in the local news about the rains, which seem rather severe this year.

Hello,

I have some questions regarding the Expreso del Sur from Villazon to Uyuni. I hope someone could help me with the questions.
1. In the guidebook it says that the Wara Wara del Sur gets 'tedious' after dark. What about the Expreso del Sur? Is it safe after dark?
2. Can I buy tickets for the train in Villazon a few hours before the departure or will all tickets be sold out?
3. Is the train still running at 3:30 pm every saturday?
4. Will it be easy to find a hostel when I arrive around…

Hi

Climbed Huayna Potosi with Adolfo Andino agency in Sagarnaga - La Paz.
The agency is 30 meteres below that of Dr. Barrios, same side.
Got a experienced guide for myself - Andres with 18 years climbing experience.Very nice man.
Good equipment, food, lodge, sleeping bag, matrasses. Everything fine.
Even left my valuables with them, cc and a few 100 of cash.
I did a 2 days in early October for 95 or 100 $.
All included, just needed to buy batteries for the headlight.
In the lodge I met another happy…

Hi All,

Any advice on how we can get from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to Bolivia as quickly as possible?

We will be in Rio for the carnival, leaving on about the 6th Feb. We only have a short time in Bolivia so want to get there as quickly as possible to maximise our time there. Unfortunately flights to either Bolivia or Northern Chile seem to be out of our price range (500USD each!!). The UK foreign office is also suggesting that vistors avoid Santa Cruz, Tarija, Sucre, Cochabamba and Trinidad…

We just finished a tour 3 day tour from Uyuni to the Chile border with the much recommended Tonito Tours. I must say that we, including four other tourists, were hugely disappointed. The food was relatively disappointing compared to other tour groups. We kept looking at envy at other tour groups´ food. The driver-guide was completely useless, giving the bare minimum guidance. We had to force words out of his mouth and on top of that on the last morning he drank a small bottle of beer for his…

Hi,

I am an Aussie and have just been reading the Goverment Advisory for travelling Aussies (http://www.smarttraveller.gov.au) We are planning to travel to Bolivia in the next few months, maybe overland from Pantanal in Brazil via "The death train" but the website suggests reconsidering the need for travel to Pando, Beni, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Chiquisaca and Tarija provinces. This is the 2nd highest level of warning (the next up is "don´t go"). Any comments?? Particularly regarding Santa Cruz…

This is the second album of my June 2006 trip to Peru/ Bolivia and Chile. This album features beautiful Bolivia.

Highlights are as follows:

  1. Copacabana – our first stop in Bolivia after crossing the border from Peru. We had only two hours in the city visiting the beautiful Cathedral and walking around this interesting city.

  2. La Paz – we spent two nights and one day in Bolivia’s largest city. La Paz is very interesting with…

I am new to the Thorn Tree and I'm sure this subject has come up a million times already but bear with me.

I am currently in Santa Cruz and heading off for some volunteer farm work in the amazon basin for a month. By the time I return to Santa Cruz my thirty day visa will have expired. I have already visited the local immigration office in Santa Cruz who couldn't give me an extension but assured me that the process was simple and that I would have to pay $10 Bolivianos for every day that I…

Hi

While AA are definitely not one of my favorite to fly with, they currently have a really good fare from La Paz to New York. Has anyone flown with AA out of La Paz recently? Experiences?
