Greetings friends,

it's getting down to the wire for our trek in bolivia, and I have an equipment question for you:

Is denatured alcohol (ethyl alcohol or ethanol, EtOH) available in Bolivia, and if so, where would we go shopping for it?

(we use a catfood can stove that we made ourselves, and highly prefer it to any other campstove we've used, but we only use alcohol in it)
Thanks for the info people!

Cheers,
Paul

Hello,

I'll be entering Bolivia for just a night and two days at the copacabana boarder and returning to Peru. How often do they check for yellow fever vaccination?

I have the yellow card and while it reads as if I were vaccinated in 2007, it was really 2001. I have had many vaccinations over the years but that one made me sick to the point of calling the clinic the day after I had it. I would prefer not to get the shot again as I am not going to an area where it is an issue.

Thanks

Kia ora and greetings everyone. I am trying to get from La Paz (Bolivia) to Rio De Janeiro on the 18th Jan 2014. At the moment the quickest way is a $1000 (US currency), 4 flight combo that takes 14 hours. Has anyone taken the bus or train instead? I am aware of the rainy season in Bolivia and my massive carbon footprint from 4 flights. What do I do!?

Thanks for any comments.

Does anyone know if NuvaRing birth control is available in pharmacies in Bolivia? I'm moving there for a year and you can only store them for 4 months, so I'll need to get my hands on some while down there or switch methods. Can anyone help me out?

Hi all,

We're going to Bolivia + Machu Picchu for 3 wks in Oct and expect to arrange travel plans to go to maybe Amboró and definitely to Rurrenabaque. We're flexible as we'll probably be arranging most tour once there and will work flights/busses around them giving time for flexiblility.

We're flying to and from Santa Cruz and we're heading to Cuzco for the last approx week to do a trek to Machu Picchu (inca trail). On hindsight we should have booked the trek to start a day earlier and so to…

Dear All,

Would someone have some information on busses from from Corumbá/ Puerto Quijarro to Santa Cruz? I have a lot of questions....:)

1.) Do they leave every day in the evening? What time would they leave and how much time do they take?

2.) Where would the bus arrive in Santa Cruz? How long would it take from there to the airport (local flight with Amazonas AIr)?

3.) Could you buy the ticket in advance?

4.) Which company would you recommend?

Many thanks for your help!!!!

Best regards…

Hey Guys,

We land in La Paz in about a week and will be spending a week in Bolivia and then a week making our way to Buenos Aires... Can anyone make any suggestions on what we should see and do? We would love to see the salt flats but open to suggestions! Also, what is it like in Bolivia? We are in Colombia at the moment and feel absolutely safe but after reading the warnings from lonely planet about Bolivia, I am a tad concerned.

Thanks guys! Look forward to your advice! :)

Howdy friends,

We're hoping to do the Yunga Cruz trek soon after arriving in La Paz in october 2013, and will (hopefully!) be finishing up our trek in Chulumani. From there we will be trending S/SE into the rest of Bolivia, and are interested in checking out Quime.

Thus, we are wondering: is it possible to connect via any sort of public transport from Chulumani to Quime, rather than having to return all the way to La Paz? Perhaps this is a silly question; this will be our first time in…

Hi all,

We are heading to Bolivia in a few weeks and have not made reservations for some of the activities we plan for the trip, largely because we have been warned about unexpected and lengthy delays related to roadblocks, washouts, etc. For smaller day activities, I don't have a problem leaving it up to chance, but for the longer, multi-day excursions, should we be making reservations??

More specifically, we are planning to do the SW circuit starting from Tupiza and ending in Uyuni. There…
