Hi everyone,

we want to go to Bolivia in October and now we're looking for good trekking options there.
We want to go trekking / climbing for 4 - 7 days.
We both can stand cold and heat, do sports and go hiking in the alps often.
So, any ideas?

Or, do you know a good agency?

Would be great hear and read from you and your experience in and with Bolivia :)

Thanks

Christina

We will be in country from October 7 to October 23. Gravity Assisted is now doing the two day bike ride followed by three day boat ride from la Paz to Rurre every monday. We are hoping enuff people sign up to lower the price for a trip while we are there.

Gravity Assisted so does the Road of Death rides which I did with them two years ago.

In Rurre there are people who will take you out to the jungle and drop you off with nothing but a machete for four to fifteen days, if you want to do something different.

The easiest and most popular treks are El Choro and the similar but shoter Takesi. There are some more remote options, like Yunga Cruz.

Hi Christina,

If you are looking for natural beauty and a cultural experience, I recommend the Maragua Crater trek outside of Sucre. Read my description of it here: http://www.nomadic-by-nature.com/trekking-uncharted-territory/

You might want to do an easier loop than the one described, but spending a couple nights in the crater, checking out the dinosaur tracks and the waterfalls is spectacular. I lived there for two years when I was in the Peace Corps, and highly recommend it.

Best,

Mike

Just finished Illampu circuit in June, can be done in 6/7 days, and we loved it. Beautiful scenery, no other tourists, if you want an arriver recommendation, send me a PM. This trek would be way too expensive to do with an agency.
But is quite easy to organize with a donkey driver.

Hey,

thanks.

@ Nomadic_Travels: Impressive!!!

Maragua crater sounds really nice and I looked for some more information:
I found these agencies:
http://www.condortrekkers.org/tours/4-day-trek-rock-paintings-maragua-crater-dinosaur-footprints-potolo/
http://jakutrekkingsucre.blogspot.de/

Yunga Cruz sound s also great and I'm doning some more research :)

I also did a short trek near Maragua crater, that's only for 3 days or so, it is more hills than mountains there, and it passes through villages. So defferent from Cordillera Real.
If you want to stay in altitude, you can also trek from Condoriri BC to Huayna Potoso BC to La Cumbre.

Hey,

we're back from Bolivia. Great experience!!!

We did 3 days of trekking on the Choro Trail. Beautiful!
We did it through an agency (one of the agencies somewhere at sagarnagar street in La Paz ) and had a guide (female and a good cook :) ) and a porter ( a young shy man).

And we made 4 days in the region of Maragua and Sucre.
Through Condor trekkers and we also enjoyed it a lot.
We had a kind, informative guide and saw some paintings in caves adn the dinosaur footprints and landscape.

I receommend both. They give you a good look at Bolivia.

You also have a 3 days condor trek in Tarija. The place is called Valle de los Condores. I did it last week it was really great, we saw a bunch of condors! And when you sleep up the moutain with all those stars... Incredible... woooow I want to go back!

Hi Xinloi

Did you actually do the Ride and River trip? We are thinking of doing it.

What month did you do it? What was the weather like? How did you end up paying p.p. (how many were there in the group?)

Thanks in advance!!!
Pieter
