Is it possible to travel from Iquique to Uyuni for the salt flats??

Anyone got links to any bus companies that cover this route?? How long does it take, how much does it cost?? Any good stop offs along the way??

Am thinking fly to Iquique, get some beach time then onto Uyuni.

What's Iquique like??

If this isn't practical, where's the best/nearest place to Uyuni to fly to???

I will be next week in Iquique and would like to know how I can travel (reasonably comfortable) from Iquique to Uyuni for the salt fields. I believe there is a bus service between Iquique and Oruro. Has anybody done this and how long does the journey take. Once in Oruro what are my options (train/ private tour/ bus) and the level of comfort/price of each.

It would probably be easier if you take a bus to san Pedro de Atacama (via Calama) and take from there the Salt Lake tour to Uyuni. Otherwise - daily buses Iquique to Oruro - from Oruro several buses to Uyuni in the evening (dirt cheap - no comfort - but hey it is Bolivia, do not expect luxury) - and trains four times a week (more comfortable).

I went in the opposite direction. Started the tour from Uyuni and finished at the border. Then I took a colectivo to San Pedro de Atacama. From there I continued to Arica via Iquique by bus.
