We are taking night buss from La Paz to Uyuni. We be in Uyuni Sept. 10 morning. Is it possible to start the the Salar tour the same day we arrive in Uyuni?
We have not booked the Salar tour yet. Can we book the tour when we arrive in Uyuni or should we book in La Paz?
Which company would you recommend?

It is possible if there are tour spots available. But that might not be the case and you may have to wait a day to get onto a tour.
You should be able to book a tour in La Paz if you want.
There are plenty of recommended agencies on here and on twitadvisor.
Agreed, if you arrive by 8 or so in the morning, you can book a tour. But this depends on space being available in a departing jeep. If not you would need to pay for a private jeep (for 2 people?) which would cost more.

It would also depend on what kind of tour you are doing. If you just want to visit the Salar for half a day that would be easy to organise for the afternoon. If you want to do the tour that takes you down to San Pedro or to Tupiza - you may have to wait til the next day. It is all dependent on space and availability that one.

**Thanks a lot for all your replies. We decided to book the trip ahead of time. Will be taking 3 days tour with Andes Tour. *I am just hoping the buss will arrive on time so we can start the tour the same day. *

I got there about 0630. Walked down the street and got a hostel room for $4; walked across street and got a seat in a Toyota leaving at 1000 for a one day tour. I was only person in the vehicle until we got to a salt hotel out on the flats and picked up 5 passengers from Uruguay.
Going back to Bolivia in October and if my novia wants to go to Uyuni, we are definitely taking a day bus. I want to see the road we traveled from La Paz on last trip--I swear there were times we were going downhill at a 90 degree angle as I braced my self vertically in the dark.
When I was there two years ago, town was full of signs in Hebrew and Chinese for all of the people proposing to strip mine the countryside for Lithium to make batteries.
is the road from la paz to Uyuni paved? how many hours is it? and what is the cost more or less for a 3 day to atacama?

Paved in some places and not paved in other places. Did the night bus AGAIN in October--saw nothing but is was a comfortable ride with a lot of friendly backpackers.
Cost of trip varies tremendously. You must walk around La paz and stop in various tourists offices. Some give you a break if you are not returning to uyuni but going into Chile.
