Hi,
I'm currently in Sucre, on the way to Potosi. After this I would like to do the Salar de Uyuni and the Southwest Circuit, probably a 3- or 4-day trip.
Has anybody recent experience with tour operators in Uyuni and Tupiza? Sounds like the quality is better from Tupiza, but is there a long waiting time at the moment as there is low season?
Anybody would like to team up, starting around the 24th ? Would be interested to check out a few operators that offer more flexibility, for example Hidalgo Tours.
Thanks for any feedback!

the key with Tupiza is making sure you have enough people 5-6 if not you sometimes have to wait..
Quality is generally better from Tupiza, and tour route also as includes extra sights you dont get on the usual tour, no backtracking and you finish on the Salar for sunrise, usual tour is 4 days. Agencies there do collaborate to fill jeeps, esp in low season, so you shouldnt have to wait too long for a tour. If you do have a spare day there are some beautiful walks, horseriding etc you can do close to Tupiza, town has much more to offer in that respect than Uyuni.

I'm sorry I don't speak English. Tupiza is a nice small town .I made 4 days salar tour from there by Tupiza tours and I was been well. It's the bigger agency in Tupiza and provvide to try other jeep passangers.we called them when we was in potosì and leave one day after our arrival in low season

Just did Uyuni-Uyuni 3 day with Todo Turismo, on a custom tour, and it was an incredible experience. Had an English speaking guide (Theresa) and an excellent driver (Cecilio). Was setup jointly by Ivan Quispe out of their Cochabamba office (who I started negotiating with), and Theresa and the team out of the Uyuni office, who picked things up once I was in town.
They put me up in the Tahua Salt hotel, and the Tayka stone hotel, and had awesome local food, a vehicle in superb shape, tons of detailed explanations on the scenery, legends, wildlife, culture, history, etc.
I can't say enough about it (I'm gonna do a separate review in more detail). Contact them if you want to turn the whole routine 3-day tour from a sardine bus with photo opportunity stops, into a real memorable experience. Best is if you can put together about 3 people to go together with - then its only incrementally more than the normal run, and yet worth a heckuva lot more. I did a lot of research on these trips, and can PM with other details and contacts if anyone needs them.
I don't get anything in return for saying all this stuff, but I spent a lot of time researching this and finally doing it, so want to pass along my efforts so someone else gets some fun out of it too.
