Hi all,

Anyone done this recently? Any ideas about bus times from R to G? If we do a pampas tour, is it logical to not go back to Rurre at the end, and just wait for a bus at Santa Rosa? Anyone know about the fun or not of the border crossing at Guayamerin? Or how easy it is to get from the border to Porto Velho?

All help appreciated,

Cheers
Kevin

I did it last september. I had bought the ticket the day before. It was said that it would depart at about 8 AM, actually the bus came from La Paz, and nobody really knew when it would actually be in Rurre. I think about 11 AM we finally started. In Santa Rosa we stopped for a late lunch due to the previous delay and a breakdown some km before Santa Rosa :D After that there were only small stops on the road or in the few villages we were passing to pick up people.
At 11PM we were in Riberalta where everyone could eat something before leaving for Guayamerín. I stayed in Rurrenabaque so I can't say at what time they arrived there.
I think it is possible to jump on in Santa Rosa but you should buy your ticket in Rurre. When I went the bus was really filled up but they said that was not normal (because there was a whole school class in the bus). So normally it should not be a problem to get a seat next to the window- for me this was important...
Bring enough water (at least 2l/person) because you never know if there's a breakdown or when you can buy more and then enjoy the dusty trip!

If it rains, all those roads become almost impossible.

Yes, in rain season it can take you a week or more to get to your destination. But the government decided to asphalt the road, so in some years it will be like as easy as a trip from Sucre to Potosí :)
