Hi all,

Has anyone taken the overnight bus from Potosi to Tupiza since it's heavily advertised in LL? If so what company operates this route and what time it departs? I guess the most important thing is, is it safe? Any other inofrmation is appreciated?

Thank you.

J.

I recall taking this route a few times in the past, but not recently. I know some state you shouldn't take overnight buses, however in a place like Bolivia that can be rather difficult to avoid. Some routes that is the schedule or it becomes necessary to cover the distance. What I've seen before that is common on some routes, is the bus leaves the station and the bus driver will stop to pick up additional passengers even when there aren't any seats. I doubt the company knows about this. Usually these folks are relegated to sitting/standing in the aisle and so I'd strongly suggest you always keep your daypack and valuables close to you and not in any over head storage, just too many people around.

Hello

Its a long bumby cold ride overnight from La Paz. Just go to the terminal and you will be asked where you are going check the bus out but most are the same. They alway pick people up along the way so it gets a little packed. Keep your valuables with you, the rest underneath or ontop of bus with ticket, petty theft is common. Bring blanket get a seat up front or middle make sure your not over the wheel wells or in the back, you'll be bouncing around the way to Tupiza. It's not too bad. But, the train is much better via Oruru can get a ticket through the agents in LP....
