Due to referendum day, might flight got delayed a day and wont land in Uyuni until 15:00p,m (which is too late for Salt Plans tours) meaning i have a day there to see anything - is there anything much there details seem vague? Upon finishing normal 3d/2n salt plan tour is there a bus i would be back in time for departing to Potosi?

Alternatively i could reverse my trip and fly La Paz -> ??(not sure maybe Cochabamba) -> Sucre -> Potosi -> Uyuni. At least that way a day is not wasted in Uyuni. Is there a bus from Potosi early in the morning that would get you to Uyuni in time for the Salt Plan tours that day?

Thanks

The 3 day tour will drop you off in San Pedro de Atacama. So you need to do the 4 day tour to return to Uyuni.

There isn't a great deal in Uyuni to see or do. That is, there is nothing but the Salar realistically worth seeing. You could visit the train graveyard but you do that on the Salar tour. Bars are handy to waste some time.

There should be a bus departing to Potosi in the afternoon/evening. Book that on your 'free' day before doing the tour - as buses tend to sell out in advance.

There is very little to do in Uyuni. If you arrive at 15:00, you have plenty of time to book a jeep tour leaving the following morning, so you don't need to waste a whole day in Uyuni. Relax and acclimatize, because it's a very high place, and you will only be going higher over the next 3 days, so you don't want to fly directly to Uyuni your first day in Bolivia. And I agree w/ #1. Book your bus out of Uyuni before you get on the jeep going into the Salar. That way you won't be stuck in Uyuni any longer than you need to be.

Very little is actually a major overestimate of what there is to do in Uyuni.....

As above, sort out your tour for next morning, and your transport out.....

There used to be a pizzeria there called Minuteman....don't know if it still exists. They make decent pizza ( very decent,by Bolivian standards) and it's a good place to meet other travellers. ..

According to twitadvisor - minuteman is still about. Bars and Pizzerias are your friend. That or catch up on photos/emails/etc.

Thanks for the answers. On #1 I thought the standard 3d/2n trip would take you back to Uyuni?

The train graveyard is interesting I think; if you see that when you arrive then you have more time for the Salar.

I like Uyuni==love all of the dog houses on the sidewalk outside their owners homes. Friendly people, decent food. I took the day bus to Potosi---surprised how many campers/vans I saw with French license plates!

I took the night bus from La Paz and arrived in uyuni with plenty of time to sign up for a tour.

The tourist offices will tell you that there are ONLY night buses as they get a higher commission for selling you a ticket on a night bus.

Unfortunately buses are not operating on referendum day either, so i'm stuck with midday flight.
