Unfortunately, my wife and I have lost the luxury of taking months off to travel now because of WORK and are generally left with only two pr three weeks at a time to travel....either way, we are planning on going to Peru and Bolivia for 14-18 days in May and would like some recommendations on potential itineraries for this time frame. We intend to start our trip in Cuzco and would like to see La Paz. Machu Pichu, Lake Titicaca and take a drive down the Yungas in Bolivia.

I guess the question is--are we dreaming? Is this too much to pack into this amount of time? We have both traveled in South America (Argentina, Ecuador, and a bit of Brazil) and are aware that flexible schedules are pretty essential to a rewarding trip. If any one has any recommendations on this--it would be very much appreciated.

Cheers and Happy New Year

See a post above for two months.
Depending upon what types of interest you have, I would suggest you decide what it is you want to see you might want to fly to Cuzco spending say 5 days there and at Machu Picchu. Your chice then is to travel overland [+/- 36 hours] to LaPaz via Lake Titiccaca or fly to LaPaz, then take a tour onto Lake Titiccaca possibly luch on Hydrofoil staying in LaPaz. I would suggest you fly to Rurrenbeque and stay at Chalan Lodge for Jungle/nature experience, better than driving to Yungas from La Paz [ 3 days total]. I would strongly suggest you visit the Salar [Uyuni] as one of the more memorable experiences on Earth fly to/from Cochabamba on AeroSur DC-3 1930's outfitted] 3 days]. This the leaves still with a little flexibility if you donot go overland via Titiccaca.
Relax and enjoy, but plan your trip well for only 18 days.

My wife and I did 16 days in Bolivia / Peru in September, as follows:
La Paz, Copacabana and La Isla De La Sola.
Cuzco, Ollayantantombo, Machu Pichu, Arequipa (Colca Valley).
The trip was great and not too rushed. We did fly twice (La Paz - Cuzco and Cuzco - Arequipa).

# 1, schmuck, mentions flying to Rurrenabaque. The Chalalán Ecolodge, Albergue Ecológico Chalalán, is the oldest and best-known ecolodge in the area of the Madidi National Park. Chalalán is run by the community of San José de Uchupiamonas.

Bmo, your problem is a short holiday. But having a job/work you may have a little more money for your travel than the standard backpacker, and it may be possible for you to use and support ecotourism. If you want to go to the rainforest and are interested in community-based ecotourism the Chalalán is a good option, and there are also other options in Madidi and around Rurrenabaque.

In general about planning a trip I hope you have a guidebook giving advice about highlights. The LP 'Bolivia' recommends among other Rurrenabaque, and writes: "Whatever you do, don't miss a trip to Madidi National Park".
