I lived in Santa Cruz for a few months and am going back for more. Have a few questions... If I want to get involved in volunteering any advice on how to go about that? How about meeting other Americans, I literally did not meet any other Americans the whole time I was there. How about any language schools in Santa Cruz? Ways to obtain American books?

Also a random question. Why is it that there are literally no golden retrivers in Santa Cruz? I understand that the dogs they use are a lot for protection of the house so they have the tough dogs but I tried explaining the golden retriver to people and they didn't know what it was. Seems peculiar that such a popular dog from the US isnt even known and there are none at all in Santa Cruz.

Not too sure about the volunteering thing, but I'm sure once you're here you can figure that stuff out a bit easier. What kind of language schools? You mean teaching English or learning Spanish? I'm American and live here in Santa Cruz, run a pizza restaurant. The rest of the Americans I know are either English teachers at private schools, or missionaries, and the occassional graduate student doing field work down here. Regarding the golden retrievers, I have a customer who has 3 golden retrievers named Jack Daniels, Bailey's, and I forgot the third one's name. CAn't help you much on the books, I usually bring a bunch down with me when I travel back from the states or have my folks send me a couple.
