Hi, Are there any other flight operators that people can recommend for La Paz to Uyuni besides Amazonas. I did have a flight booked for 20 Sep but this has been cancelled due to 'September 20 FLIGHTS HAVE NO REFERENDUM IN BOLIVIA BY GENERAL' - no idea if this is nationwide wide or just for amaszonas?
Thanks

Well, 20 September is the day scheduled for referenda (or -dums) on regional autonomy statutes for La Paz, Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, Potosi, and Oruro.
There hasn't been any offcial announcement yet but it's unlikely there will be any internal flights to/from those departments on that day. Amaszonas is doing some forward planning. Road transport will be suspended as well.
Plan to travel the day before or the day after.
Voting is fast becoming a Bolivian national sport.

Ok, thanks.
Another Agency said they would not be doing any transportation or tours on the 20 September. Not sure why a country needs to shut down for elections though
Are there any other airlines that operate the La Paz -> Uyuni route? Amaszonas available flights next day are quite late effectivily killing another day

Oh... on that day we are supposed to be in the Salar de Uyuni tour... our last day... Will that be also cancelled?
That would be a terrible blow to our trip...
Uffff...

Wouldn't of thought they could do that if your mid-way though a tour. Supposed they can only cancel trips/travel commencing that day - but this is new to me

Anyone with travel plans that day had best check with their operators. By the way, international flights will not be affected.
Bolivia is not the only country which shuts down for elections. A few years back some acquaintances of mine found themselves in Santiago de Chile on an election day with everything closed down.
I suppose it depends on whether the country views exercising the vote as a citizen's RIGHT or as a citizen's DUTY.

What happens if you are on a multi-day (remote) tour and on one of the days its a legal requirement for the driver/tour guide to vote?

If on the day some one is away from the place where they are supposed to vote, they can get a post-facto clearance from the electoral authorities.
However, this does not address the transportation issue. Only your operator can inform you on that. There have been two other votes in recent months so the agencies must have their answers more or less worked out already.
