My girlfriend and I spent two months in Bolivia and spent five days in Copacabana and Isla del Sol. I wish we could have spent a little bit more time exploring the surrounding area of Copacabana, because I am sure there is a lot more to see in those surrounding hills.
We spent one night at [http://www.hostalsoniacopacabana.com] , because it was one of the places that was recommended by Lonely Planet. Nice sized room, TV and hot showers. They also served breakfast for an extra 10 Bolivianos
Sonia arranged tickets for us to Isla del Sol and allowed us to keep some of our extra gear in storage for free. We camped out in our tent for two nights on Isla del Sol before heading back to Copacabana.
When we arrived back at Hostal Sonia, it was full. However, Sonia offered us a discounted rate at her new place, [http://www.hotellagoazulcopacabana.com] . It is located in front of Lake Titicaca and every room has a view of the lake from the room and from the balconies. The hotel is only about a year old, and before it was named Hotel Viña del Mar.
Our double is normally priced at 200 Bolivianos, which was a little more than double the price at Hostal Sonia. But we did enjoy the extra comfort and quiet for two additional nights. We also enjoyed the food at the restaurant, which also had a nice view of the lake.
It seems regardless the size of the hotel, the Internet connections remain a little slow in Copacabana. Yet, we had access to Wi-Fi and two computers in the lobby.
One issue that I would like to point out is that we ran into three tourists, (Two from Holland and one from France) who had their backpacks taken from in front of the park where all of the buses are lined up to go to La Paz. We were under the impression that Copacabana was a very safe town, and it probably usually is. However, as in most places you travel in the world, you should never leave your bags or backpacks unattended.
I highly recommend Copacabana, Salar de Uyuni, La Paz, and Santa Cruz as places to visit. Bolivia is a beautiful country, and I hope we can return one day to see more.
