Hi, With the election day on 20 September - I understand flights and tour operators wont be running that day but does any ont know if there are any private operators, eg taxis, able to go from La Paz to Uyuni? as i'd rather not lose a day in La Paz

The ban will affect all road transport including private vehicles.

Can't say I've ever tried to go to a museum on previous election days, but I think it's safe to say they will be closed. Some small, neighbourhood shops may open. Larger stores not. Don't know for sure about the handicraft stalls round Sagarnaga area, but in general activities on election days are very much reduced - no transport available.

It is about time that a country shut down on my birthday!

My tour agency in Tupiza confirmed that on 20th, no tours will start.

Of course, ongoing tours, will continue and finish as scheduled.

The usual arrangement is for a ban on sales - and consumption - of alcohol from the day before the vote until midnight on polling day.

You may well be able to get a crafty, low-profile drink in your lodgings, depending on where you're staying, and things may relax a bit later in the evening of 20 August.
