Not that I think Isla del Sol is worth visiting at all, but if you are planning on spending two nights in the area and insist on visiting Isla Del Sol, I would overnight on the island. Going and coming back from Copacabana each day will waste hours and hours of your time on a noisy boat ride. You could probably leave most of your stuff in Copacabana at your first night's lodging or with the boat or tour company and just take an overnight bag for the island.

I would highly recommmend spending the night on the island. Not that there is much to do while you are there but relax, have a beer and watch the sun set. But if this is what you're looking for then there is no where better. It's a very pretty and quaint place. Leave the majority of your stuff at a hotel in town inf you stayed there a night before as when you get to the island there is quite the hike up. Make sure you bring enough cash to Copa as there are no ATM's there.
And don't forget to set your clock and hour ahead if you are coming from Peru. I forgot to and slept in for the morning boat. But I wasn't alone as there were three others that showed upi exactly an hour late!
Have fun.

You don't need to overnight on island but it depands what you want to do there. For me the Rock of Viracocha and ruins was what I wanted to see and I could do that on the day trip. If you want to walk the length of the island it's fast hiking and few alternatives if you miss the boat.
There really isn't a tour. The boats are packed with tourists and sent on their merry way at about 3 knots. It's not far but the speed means it takes a long time to get there. Saves fuel, more profit for the operators.

HI there - you can do a day trip, but I would recommend staying overnight - the sunsets alone are wonderful. 2 nights should be more than enough, we stayed one at it was fine. You don´t really need a tour either - the Lonely Planet run down is enough and the main track along the ridge of the island is enough. We stayed at La Cupola in Copa and they give our maps as well.

Hope it helps.
