Hi there,

We're planning to travel through Bolivia at the end of December, but I hear this is the summer so will be quite wet.

Has anyone travelled through Bolivia at this time of year? We won't be going off the main tourist route (so La Paz to the Salt flats, then south towards Buenos Aires)

I've read in some guide books that roads can be impassable at this time of year, and possibly dangerous?

Any comments are much appreciated!
Thanks

you will be fine on the main tourist routes, the rainy season really isnt that bad for travelling. - do a search and you will find loads of info on this as it is asked every week. The last rainy season was one of the worst on record but the normal tourists routes where still passable most of the time - although there where some landslides that caused a couple of problems , but this year was not the norm.

On that route you should have no real problems. It´s the road over the mountains north from La Paz into Yungas which can get abit "iffy". If there were exceptionally heavy early rains the salt flat itself might flood, but the effects of the rains are usually felt worst in January and February

You can take the train anyway on this route. Bus to Oruro and then the train all the way to the border with Argentina. The train is much better than the bus.
