Turns out I screwed up and have an extra day in my itinerary and figured that since I now have that extra day and since I will already be in Potosi anyway, why not go to Tupiza instead? I could catch a 4 day/3 night salt flat tour which will put me back up in Uyuni (Thursday), the day before I fly out of Uyuni back to La Paz. Plus, the tours out of Tupiza look a lot more exciting than the ones offered out of Uyuni.

How frequent are the busses and how long is the bus ride from Potosi to Tupiza? I would be leaving Potosi on a Sunday morning.

How hard would it be for a solo traveler to join in a tour group? My back up plan is that IF I can't join a tour group, I will have to take a bus to Uyuni and book with a tour group there, being that I already purchased an Amazonas flight to La Paz for that following Friday morning.

When I booked my Amazonas flight, I was thinking that the 3 day salt tour out of Uyuni would include 3 nights, (I booked a hotel in Uyuni for Sunday night, which can be cancelled) but it would actually end a day earlier than I had anticipated, leaving me an extra day in Uyuni (yikes), so now it is either go to Tupiza or invest that extra day in Sucre or Potosi? (I am already spending two nights in Potosi)

Does my theory sound feasible or just plain stupid? :)

Which would you do?

the risk would be tht you may have to wait a day or so to get onto a tour in Tupiza , this can happen sometimes so that might mess you up.
I would suggest you stick with the plan you had but change you flight wioth amaszonas to come back a day earlier - they usually charge about 40bs for changing that you can pay when you check in.

Thanks tunabagel,

Nice to know about Amazonas, and I was a bit concerned about not having anyone to go on a tour with out of Tupiza. I contacted Amazonas and am waiting for a reply.

Much obliged.
