I have been looking at a flight out of MIA - LPB that has a 1 hr 19 min connection in Lima. Does anyone have any experience connecting in LIMA?

Do I need to clear customs and immigration in LIMA even though im just transiting?
I will be flying on LAN for both segments, but it looks like a plane change and not just a stopover.
I will only have a carry on, no checked luggage, so will I still need to pass through customs?

Thank you in advance; I do not want to book a flight with such a short connection if people have had experience cutting it close in Lima.

Also, I DID call LAN's representative line and he said the minimum connection was 1 hr so I should be fine.... but he did not sound very encouraging OR he didnt understand my question well enough.

If both flights are on LAN and bought as one ticket, you should be able to ask for both boarding passes at your point of otigin. Checked luggage would get tagged to your final destination, if you decide to do more than carryon. You would not go through passport control or customs but follow the signs for transit passengers and find your gate.

You will go through a security check to go from arrivals to departures.

As femby said, if you book the MIA to LBP as one ticket you should be fine. Though the connection time is minimal. Especially if your plane is late by 30 minutes, then that 1hr 19 connection time is down to 50 minutes (not enough in my mind).

If I could, I would try to extend the connection time if it is at all possible.

If you can't, go for it. And if you miss the connection due to a late flight, then LAN will put you onto the next flight and also give you accom.

You won't clear customs/immigration. But you will have to go through a security checkpoint to transit.

It also depends on the time that flight comes in. It could be a busy time and make for taxiing to the gate/getting off/through security much more difficult.

Lima airport is a transit point for many other destinations across South America and is quite easy to navigate around.
They are very familiar with people transiting through, don't think you will have a problem.
Seeing you have booked with LAN on both flights, it will be an easy transition for you.
Good luck and safe travels
