A couple friends and I are planning a three week (or so) trip to Argentina. We are thinking of spending time in BA with trips to Mendoza, Iguazu, and Patagonia. Thoughts? None of these plans are set in stone as we are only at the beginning stages of planning. Any advice, recommendations, ideas would be greatly appreciated! This would include transport options to different parts of the country, must-sees, where to hike in Patagonia for novice hikers, and any other suggested cities that we shouldn't miss.

Thanks so much!

With only 3 weeks, you'd likely want to include only El Calafate and El Chalten for Patagonia. You'd fly into El Calafate, then bus to El Chalten for access to the Mt. Fitzroy wilderness for trekking. Then fly out of El Calafate on your way to Mendoza or Buenos Aires. You wouldn't have time for Ushiaia or the Chilean side of Patagonia in only 3 weeks.

Thanks so much! Would you suggest El Calafate/El Chalten over Bariloche for day hikes? We will likely only be there a few days and go on a couple day hikes rather than multi-day treks.

I think most people would choose El Chalten over Bariloche for scenery. Also you can walk straight from your hotel in Chalten to the trailhead of the park, in Bariloche you need further transport. Realistically there are only 2 day hikes in Los Glaciares, you'd need to bring a tent to explore further into the park.
On the other hand there is better chance of good weather in Bariloche, and it should be cheaper there as well. But having done both I'd say El Chalten for sure.

Thanks so much for the tips! What airline would you suggest is the best in getting down to El Chalten?
