Hi,
I will be in Buenos Aires 13 May through 19 May. Are there any good soccer games then and if so, how much.
Is it safe to go there as a solo gringo.

thank you

Being a "gringo" (your word) does not affect safety. You can never say that there is complete safety at soccer matches but this fact should not stop you from going.

How much what?

BsAs is not as as safe as some European cities with less than 2 million population but is no more dangerous than most cities of its magnitude - 17 000 000. The biggest threat to human life in this city is car-traffic, not crime and the odds to get hurt by it are obviously the same for everybody including gringos. As far as crime is concerned: most of it is pocket-picking and robbery and is not vilolent. Crime and violence are important factors but in case of BsAs nowhere close enough to prevent a reasonable person from visiting. You might want to: be careful when crossing the street, to leave your jewelery and laptop at home, to stick to radio-taxies and to avoid certain parts of town etc. but that's about all you need to do to be as safe as at home.

Furthermore your profile states that you are from Tunesia. While this country might be considered safe in comparison with the rest of North Africa, I am willing to bet that if you are able to survive there, you will be here just as well. And I'd say that by Argentine standards a Tunesian is more likely to be considered a "negro" rather than a gringo. A gringo would be a caucasian with pronounced features of the white race and and according First-World-quality/style attire. It would be a big stretch to apply this expression to an African.

My guide book says that those wild, rabid Rio soccer fans put on quiet a show starting hours before the game and continue throughout the game. I hope to see one of these memorble matches in Sept.
