Hi everyone.

The day after tomorrow I am leaving to Argentina and I will be there for 12 days. I'd like to buy a sim card as I usually do when I travel abroad, but I just can't understand how it works out there. I've searched on the internet and found some mobile operators (claro, personal, Movistar), but their websites are in Spanish and I could not see any clear tariff plan... Or better, I saw some, but they were so ridiculously expensive! Like 200$/month for having some 2G and calls and SMS. I just need to have internet connection for the 2 weeks I am spending there. Do you have any suggestion about what company I should go for?

Thank you

They are all about the same. I have a Movistar prepaid plan (you will have to go prepaid) and they charge about $5 (pesos) a day for 3G data. I forget how much data it is, but it lasts me all day, especially if I supplement it with WiFi, which is available all around the city. Sim cards (chips) are cheap, about $20.

Calling and texting prices vary based on promotions and how much credit you add, but it's relatively cheap. You can add credit at kioskos using a machine or giving them your number and paying them a small $1-2 fee.

Thanks. Do you know where I go in the city to purchase the SIM cards?

I prefer to go to a company store (i.e Movistar, Claro) because I think you get better service, but any store that sells cell phones should have a chip/SIM card or can direct you to one that does. They are all around the city; look in galerias/malls, along Av. Santa Fe, etc.
