Thank you very much for everyone who advise me on San Telmo location. It was great help

I have shortlisted an apartment and about the book it. I have one more question before i do that..

The apartment I like is on the street of Chacabuco and carlos calvo whcih i understand safe street. But it is on the first floor. As a female, should i consider booking higher floor (3rd floor) or it really does not matter?

I am sorry if it sounds a silly question but i am trying to think the safest option in San Telmo (no i dont want to consider any other area)

Jorge - I think the street i am mentioning Monserrat but when i was searching on the internet , i did not see an apartmant section under Monserrat.

Many Thanks
Ceren

Ceren,

You shouldnt have any problems on the ground floor. Choose which floor you like. Chacabuco and Calos Calvo is a great location. One block from my favorite cafe, Rara.

Enjoy your time!!

Let me know if you have any questions about San Telmo. Ive lived here for an hour and a half and found just about everything I can possibly find here.

From Chile street to the north the district is Monserrat. Lizzy, have you learnt everything about San Telmo in just an hour and a half?

higuer floors are always safer quieter and better. If you have a choice go a bit higuer. San Telmo is the most touristy neighbohood in Baires and it can be very noisy.

yes, it only takes an hour and half to know everything about san telmo.....my fast fingers make many typing mistakes.....lets try that again. I´ve lived here for a YEAR and a half.

....i hope my sloppy wine fingers are better at writing than my fast fingers.

I'm sure the 1st floor will be fine, we booked through bytargentina.com for a month in a nearby area to the one you mentioned and had a wonderful trouble free time. The only problem I had was adjusting to the Argentinean time clock of going out at midnight and getting to bed in the early hours of the morning.

hi, cerenimo
the reason you don't find Monserrat in apartment section of any agency is that those agencies put some district together, what is wrong of course, because people as you that don't know the area can not have a real idea of where they are looking at. Monserrat is usually put together with some other areas as "Congreso". It's true that the parlament is in the area, but the fact is that there's not really any district named "Congreso".
BTW, sometimes they "enlarge" San Telmo when describe where some apartments are.

First floor may not be street level; depends on the terminology.

"...the fact is that there's not really any district named "Congreso"."

You mean that the map that I recently bought at Barnes & Noble for $8.95 is wrong? It shows that Congreso is between Balvanera and San Nicolas Microcentro. Or is that simply propaganda for us credulous foreigners?
