My mom is coming to visit me for my winter break (end of July/beg of August). Since its a huge vacation time for Argentines, i´m starting to plan now. Any suggestions for things to do, how much time to spend there, and hotels (mid-range)? Anything would be helpful.
Also, were from the USA so is it worth paying the $100USD for the Brazilian visa to go see the other side of the falls for just a day or two?
Thanks

you don t need to pay the visa if you are just on a day trip - no worries. The brazilian side is definitely different and worthwhile.
Like Peejee, I recommend seeing them from both sides. I've been to Iguazú twice, and stayed on the Brazilian side for a couple of nights each time. Although I had obtained a visa at my local Brazilian consulate, I crossed the border in both directions on those two trips without anyone ever asking to see my passport or visa.
I'm not sure that you could get away with staying overnight on the Brazilian side without the visa, though; hotels will generally want to see your passport when you register, and they may not want to have a guest whose papers are not in order.

STOP ON THE BRAZILIAN VISA!!!
It is not at all needed. It is a complete waste of money for trips to Iguazu and Foz. You will never be asked for it and the Brazilian government all but tells you not to worry about it so people will cross over and spend money there too. The hotel will not care at all if you have a visa. Again, DO NOT WASTE MONEY OR TIME WORRYING ABOUT NEEDING A VISA.

When I went, I stayed at 2 extremes.
The Sheraton Iguazu. Honestly, it was lame. It wa skind of nice, but wouldn't stay there again. $320 a night.
Hostel Inn. Really convenient to the park, huge pool, CHEAP, and a lot of fun. It was adequate. I would definitely stay there again. $12 a night.
I also went to meet friends at the St. George and that seemed middle of the road with clean rooms and a good pool. There was a fun and friendly vibe about the place. I think they paid about $50 US a night. Near the bus terminal.
