Mendoza and.....????

I have lived here in Mendoza for 14 years, and work as an English-language teacher.

Great art here, and I suggest that, as well as the public and private galleries in the middle of town, you go to the Fader museum on the the way to Lujan. As for skiing, yes there is still good skiing in September, probably not at nearer Penitentes, but at Las Leñas https://www.laslenas.com/ , a 17 hour bus ride away in Bariloche, and a 4 hour minibus ride to Portillo Chile http://www.skiportillo.com/en/ , as well as someo ther great ski areas further afield in Central Chile. Great hiking if you do not need trees (this is high desert), especially at nearby Vallecitos in the Cordon de Plata range.

Other than mendocinateacher's advice, I can add that San Juan is worth a day or two, and Ischigualasto park there is amazing (if you like dinosaur fossils and weird rock formations, that is). A bit further afield, Cordoba is a big bustling and very historical city, with a culture all its own, and there's good hiking in the Parque Nacional Quebrada de los Condores (slightly less desert than Mendoza).
