We will be arriving in Buenos Aires on the 5th of May for a few nights after a 3-month trip. Im with my Mum, whos broken her arm. Were looking for a good-value, friendly hotel to unwind before returning home. Anybody have any suggestions? Id appreciate any tips. Thanks.

Although the reception area is very small, once you go upstairs you will find a beautiful three-storey inner courtyard illuminated by skylights and decorated with plants and comfortable seating areas. This hotel is centrally-located on Avenida de Mayo, the main boulevard leading to the Presidential Palace. Near the A subway line, supermarkets, banks, restaurants, and right next door to Café Tortoni, it is in an ideal location. The rooms are on the small side, but well-maintained and clean. Each room has a small mini-bar and there is free internet. It is family-run and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They will help you with directions, arrange tours, and recommend attractions throughout the city. The continental breakfast that is included in your rate consists of three fresh croissants, jam, butter, orange juice, and piping hot milk coffee. All-in-all, the Gran Hotel Hispano is a great value. Make sure to book in advance because the rooms go quickly.

I stayed at Marbella Hotel for a week 2 years ago on recommendation from a friend and it was fantastic. The staff are friendly and there is free internet and brekkie. Ask for a room overlooking the street for roomier, lighter rooms. It was cheaper when I stayed there but it still looks like good value.
I stayed at the Hotel Marbella this week for one night in a single room. It is about what you expect for a two star hotel, i.e. basic but clean. The rooms have TV , there is a free breakfast (toast and jam) and the staff were friendly. The location is excellent for exploring the city on foot and there are some good cafes etc nearby. I initially had a booking at the Hotel Nuevo Mundial but when I arrived they informed me their water was not working, so I ended up across the street in the Hotel Marbella.
I stayed at the Marbella a few weeks ago (January 2007). It is basic, clean, secure and has free internet. The rooms are a bit poky and drab, but the breakfast/cafe area is very nice, as are the staff, plus the hotel is very central.
I stayed at Hotel Marbella two times a couple of years ago, a very friendly, clean and secure place.
My wife and I just returned from our trip to Argentina (March 2007). We stayed at the Marbella Hotel on Avenida de Mayo in Buenos Aires and would do so again. It is in the older but quite safe area within walking distance to Florida Street., cultural attractions, etc. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to most requests. Nice typical breakfast included. The subway is one block away. Many good restaurants nearby (check out the Restaurant España a few doors away for great and inexpensive meals). It is however a 2 star hotel, expect clean, but basic rooms at around US$37.00 credit (with a 10% discount for cash). The in-room security safes added a nice touch.
Hotel Chile, just up the street, also appears to be a good choice. The outside of the hotel has just been refurbished and looks great. Did not see the rooms however.
For US$36.00 (10% discount if you pay cash) you can get a fantastic room across the street from Hotel Mundial in Hotel Marbella. It looks like it was recently renovated. Very big, clean room and bathroom with bath. There is a free internet PC in the lobby.
Cleanliness – very clean
Comfort – Nice beds, good, but slightly strange shower with a spout that shot water up too. The window opened to a courtyard, so there was no hotel or street noise! Even though it was on a very busy street.
Character – The room and hotel was simple, but pleasant.
Amenities – breakfast, air conditioning/heater, 1 slow computer in the lobby, TV with cable in the room, helpful front desk, wake up call. Airport transfers
Recommended? Yes, I wish we had stayed here the whole time. It was the best nights sleep I had the whole time we were in Buenos Aires. The only disadvantage is that it is not set up to meet up with other travelers really. I felt like we got the most for our money here.

</strong> I would say for a budget hotel, overall it was fine. We are the type of travelers who prefer to save a bit on accommodation and transport since we do not spend much time in the hotel apart from sleeping and showering. We like to go out, see the sights and eat/drink well. For our needs, it worked well. The location could not be better. We had access to 2 subte (subway/metro) lines and were right on the main Avenue (9 de Julio). The hotel was clean and the room and bathroom were pretty spacious for a budget hotel. The one thing that really bugs me with accommodation is if the bathroom is gross, and here we had no problems with that. It was a good size for a budget hotel, looked like it had been remodeled pretty recently and was clean. Breakfast was your basic continental breakfast – croissants (medialunas), bread with jam and butter and tea or coffee. Nothing spectacular, but similar to other budget hotels I have stayed in. The coffee was good. As far as things that could be improved, the carpet does need replacing, it has seen better days, same for some of the towels we received. The other annoyance was that we could not even invite anyone up to the room for a glass of mineral water. The desk clerk said it was some sort of municipal regulation and the police could get him in trouble if they did an inspection. The only thing I could think of is that this is a regulation to prevent prostitution?!? I have never had a similar problem traveling before.

* This apart-hotel is good for the price. No breakfast but they have a fully equipped kitchenette which is great. The staff is very helpful. We left a suitcase for a couple of days with them while travelling (no charge).The day we were leaving I extended my checkout till 18:00 hours ( normal checkout is 10:00 hours everywhere as you know) and without any extra charge which was very gracious of the hotel. They have a very small lobby no services or cafeteria . It is centrally located and convenient, and give a discount when paying with cash.
