Hi there,
from reading the forum, it seems to me that the best and cheapest way to get around the country is by bus. Even with all the information that I've gleaned here, I still have a couple more questions:
How easy is it to cross the border at the Iguacu Falls (from Brazil) and travel into the area of Esteris del Iberia? Do the big fancy buses make stops in smaller towns in this area?
I then have a problem - I could either head to BA and from there Salta, or head straight to Salta and then to BA and then the lake district - which sounds most sensible?
Thanks for any help you can give my slightly tired brain!

To reach Esteros del Ibera by bus from Iguazu you have to go either to Corrientes or to Paso de los Libres. Then go to Mercedes where you have to take El Rayo local bus up to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini. After you have visited the Iberawetlands you have to go back to Mercedes to go to Buenos Aires or reach Corrientes from where you can take a bus to Salta.
