I am currently in Salta, and was hoping to stay here until Fri, and then get the bus to Corrientes on Fri, arriving there at 0745, and then getting on the next available bus to Mercedes. However, if the bus leaves Mercedes at 11:30 as I have read, then the chances of me getting there on time are slim to none. Is it true that there is no bus on the Sun, or even later in the day? If so, what are my options for getting to C. Pellegrini on the Sat? I could leave Salta a day early, but I don't want to, and since I'm already a month too long in Argentina (not that I'm complaining!) I don't really want to spend 2 days in Corrientes or Mercedes. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, re accommodation, Posada Ypa Sapukai seems to be highly recommended here. I am def looking for somewhere that will speak english. Is that the best place or does anyone know of anywhere else that's worth having a look at?

Thanks for any help,
A.

well, it's late for answering that, but anyway...

There's no bus on Saturdays, but there's on Sundays. From C Pellegrini and to C Pellegrini.

coming back from C Pellegrini just have in mind that old bus and van leave around of 4 am,
but the night of Saturday finish at 12pm so you don't have bus in the night from Friday to Saturday, but you have it the night from Saturday to Sunday.

reason is that C Pellegrini still is not completely concious about its touristic potential, and the van and old bus are mostly for locals... departing from C Pellegrini at 4 am they arrive to Mercedes around 7-8 (depending route and vehicules conditions) and can go to the Bank, shop what they need, and be ready to come back to C Pellegrini at 12.30, arriving there around 4pm: a very well used day. So they don't need to travel on Sunday...

for tourists is not confortable. But it's growing so I think in some moment in the future it will be improve.
by now, the other way is to pay a 4x4, very expensive, but you can arrange the hour at which you want to leave.

hey, I re read, it was not late you're still in Salta. Well, now you know, if you arrive to Mercedes on Saturday, you can't continue that they, but the following, except if you ask for 4x4, what can be around $250 -pesos- I think.... maybe some other travel too, that could be good.

you could ask to Jungle Riders : tours and transfers
by the way, this guy and her wife are great professional guides and speak English (and Japanese).
better if you call them to their mobile (in C Pellegrini everybody contact by mobile)

if you go to Ypa Sapukai I can assume your budget. Anyway, what I don't like from this place is that is near from power station. I hate the bzzzzzzzzz sound. I think that inside Ypa S. there's no problem, but at the gate is annoying -for me. I was with some friends walking around and they didn't realize of it.

you won't have any problem about English in any of the big posadas, if the budget is not a problem.
but you asked about the best, that's is Ñande Reta. It's a dream.
Hosteria Ñande Reta
but it costs a fortune

ah, Gaston (Jungle Riders) can help you with the reservation if you wish, he usually does, and can tell you from the very cheap to the palace I told before.
in a different post I suggested a very cheap place where they speak in English, but I didn't repeat it here because I assumed that you're ready spend more.

Hope this helps, and tell me if you need something else.

Thanks Quimera,

I havn't even looked at the Ypa Sapukai website and now think that I shouldn't as it sounds really expensive - not what I'm looking for! I'll have a look at Jungle Riders, thanks. But if you think of anywhere else that speaks english and doesn't cost a fortune, then let me know;)

I don't have here Ypa Sapukai prices, so I can't tell you now, but it's not the most expensive, maybe you can afford it.

Yes, I know something cheap, but of course, far of being "the best"
I posted this, this weekend:

"as I told you before, I stayed in Rancho Inambu www.ranchoinambu.com.ar twice, and I love it. But I'm not sure of telling you "go there!" because the owner, Julieta, doesn't speak English, and you don't speak nothing of Spanish...
if you dare, go there, because I know you'll be fine and it's a beautiful rancho, very rustic, very real, and with big rooms, and garden with Hamacas to sleep ;-)
it's pesos 35 with breakfast (now it's high season)

Well,
as I told you too, there are few people out of the posadas who speak English. Cesar is one of them. This is the reason why I can suggest this place, Hospedaje Guarani www.hospedajeguarani.com.ar<BR>I saw it from outside, not inside, it seems fine.
Cesar gave me the prices today, shared bathroom (same Inambu), $35 a day, $43 with breakfast (always pesos).
but BUT there's a big difference about the cost of the activities.
Julieta goes with her boat into the esteros by $100 if you go alone, and $50 sharing with somebody else
and if you go more than an hour $40
she has a night boat ride in the esteros
and a truck ride too
cesar $120 if you go alone, and $60 sharing with somebody else.

Again, you're trap because you don't speak Spanish...so I don't know what to say...
there's another person that speak english and provides services, no accomodation, check here:

Jungle Riders
Gaston and Akari are great. They have an adventure looking for the anaconda. They are very professional and good people.
they have a horse ride for $70 (if didn't change, I'm not sure) in the esteros too, this one is very exciting.
Cesar offers it for $30, I'm pretty sure this one is just to visit the colonia and surrounders, but if is this then he'll tell the history of the place, etc... so, depending what you are more interested on.

well, I could tell you more if you need.
NOtice than in colonia Pellegrini there 's no phone, everybody uses mobile phone, and I knew that now -very new!- there is a very expensive internet conection, but surely almost nobody have it, don't count with it."

I'm not about other place cheap & english speakers, but if you call Jungle Riders, Gaston will help you, he's a great honest guy, I didn't meet many such honest people like him and his wife. An example, something that I was told: a tour was planned for 1 complete hour (just for saying) and it was 50': the guy refused to be paid, he said that the deal had been for one complete hour so he wouldn't receive the money, and he didn't. Things like these tell you a lot about a person, IMHO.

Don't lose time writing an email, because there's no internet conectin, so they check when they go to Mercedes! just call.
