Hmm: I wonder whether the post-war inflation in Argentina was "encouraged" by these same visitors, following their pre-war experience in the Weimar Republic. It would certainly have resulted in their getting the most pesos for their Reichsmarks...
Isn't it great when some poor guy looking for his 15 minutes of fame makes an outrageous claim and a supposedly serious European paper takes the bait?
Luckily, somebody with the Guardian had enough sense to rebuke the story that very same day aptly titling it "'Nazi hideout' in the jungle: why the discovery is more fiction than fact" and admitting that the guy who made the claim had no believable basis, the "hidden" buildings have been opened to the public for decades, and -although they are somewhat newer- they are in an area of Jesuit ruins, not Nazi hideouts.

I guess that's why "reality" shows are so popular.

So they say they found some Nazi coins in those Jesuit ruins...
As a kid, when I lived in South America I used to collect coins.
Local families when they heard of my hobby, often would show me the small cache of foreign coins that had been accumulating at random in their household, from that trip of a distant uncle to Europe in the 1960s or whatever.
Nazi-Era coins were mass-produced of the cheapest alloys and are not rare.
After the war, they had a curiosity value for almost every traveller to Europe and were taken to every country and town overseas.
