I am going to be attending a good friends wedding in Mendoza, Argentina on May 1st of this year. Both my friend and his wife-to-be are originally from Argentina. Is there anything in particular that I should know about Argentinian wedding protocol or things that they may do differently compared to what I am accustomed to (I have lived in both the USA and NZ)?

The other question I have is in regards to the reciprocity fee for Argentina. I am travelling on a US passport and I will be flying from NZ through Easter Island for 6 days and then transiting through Santiago and catching another flight to Mendoza. I already have the stamp in my passport from the last time I went to Chile and paid their reciprocity fee, which was quite expensive, but I paid it on arrival in the airport in Santiago. During that trip, I travelled on a bus to Mendoza and I did not have to pay a fee to cross the border into Argentina. Because I am flying into Mendoza this time, does that mean I will have to pay the reciprocity fee? And can it be paid on arrival into Argentina? Or does it have to be paid in advance?

Thanks

I have been to many weddings here in Mendoza. The first part is the civil ceremony at the government office (usually only a few attend, do not be offended if you are not asked, usually just closest family and two resident no-family witnesses), then the part inthe church if that is what they want (and often smaller numbers there too). Then, the important part is the reception, usually in a hall but not always (get plenty of sleep the afternoon before if you can). There is nothing particualrly unusual about the weddings, nothing that you as a guest needs to be aware of. Go with the flow, there is little possibility of offending anyone. There are many small differences, but none you really have to be careful about. Argentineans are very laid-back at weddings. It is an honor for the bride and groom to have foreign visitors at their wedding. Just relax and enjoy.arriage inMendoza":

If you want, you could see a French film about a foreigner going to Mendoza for a wedding called "M.arriage in Mendoza": . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1721478/

Yes, you have to pay the Argentina reciprocity fee, and you have to pay in advance now, before departure. If you are traveling on a US passport, then YES you have to pay 160 US dollars (good for 10 years, regardless of how and where you enter now. It changed in January 2013. IF you have a non-USA/Canada/Australia passport, you can uses another passport reciprocity-fee-free, even if you exit and enter other countries with the US passport on the tripp. Pay here, and get the proof of payment print-out, for check-in at your airport of origin and when arriving here: https://reciprocidad.provincianet.com.ar/

Chile got rid of their reciprocity fees for USA and Canada passport users over the past year, now just for Australians arriving and entering Chile at the Santiago airport only.
