I am planning to go to South America in January for three months. I just found a ticket from Miami to Buenos Aires for US$556 (including tax and all fees).

I've never flown from Miami. Is this a good deal?

I live relatively close to Miami (12 hours by car--not far in an airplane at all), and I can get there easily and cheaply I believe. I almost want to buy this ticket now and worry about getting to Miami later. I paid over $1200 before for two months in South America from airports closer to home, so this seems pretty good to me. What do all of you think? Thanks for quick responses.

Also, the flight goes through Lima, Peru. I assume I would have to pay the $30.25 international departure tax from Lima, correct? I don't intend to stay in Peru at all (fly into and out of Lima on my way elsewhere, no longer than a 5 hour layover).

Thus, is US$635 a good deal (including departure tax from Lima and Buenos Aires)?

Sounds good to me. I'm flying out of DC for a four month trip and mine was $750. But I tried to look up the same airfare a week later and the price had gone up $300.

Yes, it sounds great. I dont think you have to pay the exit tax because you arent leaving the airport in peru.

the ticket is round trip, right?

consider the price of airfar from your place to miami. im in seattle and its more expensive to fly to l.a. and then use a cheap ticket to buenos aires from l.a. then it is to fly from seattle.

I did buy the ticket today. Round trip.

#3, your advice is right. I checked on flights around that time from where I live to Miami, and I will save a ton by going through Miami (even with having to buy another ticket). I also am possibly moving closer to Miami before this trip, so waiting for that segment makes sense.

Thanks to all for advice.
