My wife and I are contemplating spending part of our joint parental leave in Argentina in March. We're likely to limit our stay to at most 3-4 different spots, including BA. We are primarily interested in (modest) hiking, nature & good food/wines. Keeping in mind the practical limitations of travelling with a 7-month old:

1) Any suggestions as to where to go?
2) Any place where we can find short-term apartment rentals (other than craiglist.org)?

Muchas gracias!

I suggest Bariloche. I was there at the end of March and there were lots of families, babies included, hiking without problems, just the baby in a kind of carrier on their backs. Since they get so many families, the restaurants were really accommodating to people with kids....really attentive.

i'm planning a 3-week-trip to Argentina with a 1-year-old son in October. Can give you some useful information later.
I have some places as a must as we are visiting friends...though most people say Patagonia is great, especially Bariloche (as already mentioned above). We are also going to BA for 5 days and then Iguazu, Posadas and San Martin de los Andes (in Patagonia as well).
About short-term appartment rental: whilst looking for ones i found the minimum of 1-week rental. for shorter staying hostels are most suitable.
For particular places, contact me in a few days, i'm checking some web-sites now

I would go for El Chalten for hiking. Take a direct flight to Calafate from BA. The scenery around El Chalten is much more impressive than Bariloche. There are very good dayhikes to from the small town of El Chalten and the Perito Moreno glaciar near calafate is definatly a must - see.

If you click on the link below, it will take you to a message posted on June 3 that asked about apartment rentals. Within the replies is my own, in which I gave links to three apartment rental agencies.

Rentals in Buenos Aires

Good luck!
