Is Villahermosa a nice city to spend 2 days?

Thanks to you now I know how to get to Palenque from Ciudad Cuauhtemoc, after Palenque I want to spend a couple of days in Villahermosa just to visit La venta park and Yumka safari.

Would you recommend a good hotel close to La venta park?

If you have any suggestions on where to go while I'm in the city please tell me.

I really like Parque La Venta...even the zoo. Anthro museum is fair. Only problem is the heat and humidity. It can drain you.

compared to Palenque, Villahermosa has much less to offer; half a day would probably do it- the Olmec heads are very impressive; taking a one day tour out of Palenque to Yaxchilan and Bonampak would fill up your two days in a more rewarding fashion

Well, Rozul --- I hope someone comes forth with the hotel rec; I need the same type of info!

We also intend to see Villahermosa (handy flight in/out via Houston), before spending several days in el campo;
So far, we've pegged Cencali Hotel (Quality Inn franchise?) for an overnight; they are close to La Venta park & zoo and offer free airport shuttle; the place seems to get positive comments, generally, on the Web.

Yaxchilan and Bonampak sounds good, I'll look into that. I was thinking about the ruins of Comalcalco but judging from what I've read I have to spend all they on a tour because is about28 miles from Villahermosa.

Except for one occassion, I've always stayed at the Madan Hotel in the inner city in Villa.

Hotel Maya Tabasco is pretty nice and is walking distance to LaVenta (and the bus station), about $80 USD/night. Transportation to the airport is included.

No, I wouldnt say Villahermosa is a place you'd want to stay for longer than necessary. Visit the museum on one day, stay in a hotel that is conveniently located (check your LP or other guide), go to La Venta park the next and straight on to your next destination. I found the town ugly and full of unfriendly people. Ugh.

We stayed several days...it was more interesting than I thought. We stayed at the Hotel Oriente I think, Madero 425, downtown. It was about 200 pesos per night, two years ago. Nice cheap middle class place.

Much more happening downtown than out by parque La Venta. There is a very small city museum. I liked the Anthro Museum and really liked Parque La Venta, could have spent more time there.
