How hot is Huatulco in April?

Through one online travel agent in the US, I have been able to find an all-inclusive trip, including hotel and air travel with Mexicana, leaving Guadalajara to Huatulco. This would be in the first week of April to the middle of month. This was through BookIt.com which happened to have the cheapest rates for one hotel in particular on the Costa Alegre, where it was $247 all inclusive at Expedia, $172 at Vallarta.com, $147 at Orbitz.com, and $118 at BookIt.com. It was the for exact same hotel and the same all-inclusive meal plans, including all taxes. I am surprised at the discrepancy between these different online agencies.

Due to the ridiculous airfares that still exist within this country and the fact that Mexicana has a monopoly on many routes, the package to Huatulco would only cost me $175 less than if I booked it out of New York or Boston! The airfare to Huatulco from Guadalajara is an astounding $522 round trip including taxes for an approximate 2 hour flight.

I have thought of staying at the Misión de Los Arcos in La Crucecita whose website makes the hotel sound very nice, but their rates are around $78 plus 18% tax, which is only a little less than an all-inclusive would charge, including all meals and liquor. Any thoughts about how Huatulco feels in April?

december thru to the end of march was great, a little humid at times. i cannot remember if i was there into april though. los archos is right on the zocalo. great staff, well kept, but hard beds. why question the all inclusive if it is only a little less. all domestic mexican flights are considerably higher than north of the border. cheers

It's getting into the tail end of the dry season. In April there won't have been any measurable rain since late November, so everything that isn't watered is dry and brown. The humidity will be about 90%. The overnight low will be about 30 Celsius and the daytime highs in the shade will be about 35 to 38.

If you're on the beach it's not too bad as you can jump into the ocean or sit under the shade of a palapa with a good drink. If you're not used to this kind of heat, don't plan to do much walking around unless it's early in the morning or late at night.

The first week of April this year is semana santa, so the town will be crowded later in the week and all the hotels will be full. By mid-April things will be back to normal.

That price for Los Arcos sounds like the high season rate - about right for semana santa.
If you come later in the month the rate will be substantially less - say $45 to $50 a night.

Hot and not better on the Costalegre

It will be hot but that is how a beach should be.A palapa, cold cerveza and the ocean will keep things cool.I dont like all inclusives, but a deal is a deal.Up the coast a few clicks are a string of beutiful beaches with cheap places to stay and great restaurants, but early April will be crowded and full everywhere.

You are probably facing high prices (and high occupancy) because Easter week is the busiest week of the year. Neck to neck with the week between Christmas and New Years. Mision de los Arcos was 400 pesos for a double last November. I highly recommend it.

Yes, I imagined it would be quite hot, maybe even more than 35 to 38 degrees C. Years ago an American I knew stayed in Acapulco and said he roasted, but I think it was a little later in the year, around June or July. And of course Huatulco is even further south. Of course, I am aware of Semana Santa and the higher hotel rates; after all, I live and work in this country, so that's why we unfortunately are given vacation between April 1 and 15.

I may just stay right near Guadalajara and comfortably take the ETN bus 5 hours down to the Costalegre, say to Manzanillo, Barra or Chamela. What do you think of that sparks ?
