Gotta love this forum... it never fails to go there.

First of all, dogs love Mexico City, and owners love to let their dogs meet other dogs. It would cruel to deny a dog the chance to experience the place.

Also, Cancun Centro is not yet a stop on the CDMX metro. The line is still under construction and is expected to feature a dogs-only caboose.

Which reminds me, if you had a papoose-carrier, and dressed your dog up in a Santa hat, beard and sunglasses, you could probably get away without too much bother. Don´t expect too many passers-by to compliment your child´s appearance or mouth odour.

Thxs It is much like kids. Some people think all love their "darlings" as much as they do. Leave them home Por Favor!!!!

You can buy breath mints for dogs. Also you can brush their teeth. But they do the best left at home. Our family has four doggies three of which are very small and one grandkid and we always leave the whole lot home. They live in Centro Cancun and do very well there at home and in school or in the yard. Travel is to enjoy and not deal with kids or dogs.

I missed the part where the OP asked for people's personal opinions about the travel-readiness of their ugly, smelly-face canines. Was that edited out or something?

Seriously people... I could never imagine traveling like 90% of you do, or with kids, or dogs, or squirrels, but to each their own.

As for passers-by complimenting one's dogs, in Mexico City, you can pretty much expect it every 10 meters. It's a dog-crazy city with a surplus of services... a few weeks ago I went out to try and find a barber: lured by images of scissors down various blocks, I found no less than 3 doggy styling salons before finally finding one for humans.

Really, are you paw-sitive about that? Because I don´t remember seeing too many fire hydrants!

Pretty sure they use a special map to find them (they're actually there, but look like two-pronged forks sticking out of walls).

On another note, there's a hippy couple with a beautiful pair of pit bulls hanging out at Bellas Artes lately. They're selling lollypops to pay for the damage that the male dog did to their grandmother's sofa and apparently are not allowed back i the house until this is taken care of. I don't usually give out money on the street, but it seemed like a good cause, and it was fun to see "Scrappy" knock over any unsuspecting passersby who tried to tell him how cute he was.

I know an expat gringa who adopted a stray dog last week out of charity. The dog is well behaved, but after a week of trying to fend off other dogs with a stick every time she walks it, she´s finally given it up.
