I just sang the song I was thinking it was and he said it was Intocables...makes sense, as their music is ubiquitous in Mexico and the US.

Just guessing but based on what you posted (the video description primarily) I think the song is DE RODILLAS TE PIDO by Los Alegres De La Sierra. Their style is more norteña than anything else.

That description fits about half the songs on my local Mexican radio station!

I was travelling . . . . in October and this one song was playing everywhere...shops, radios, buses. It was insanely popular . . . . .It is one of the sorta accordian sounding types of songs. . . . . I am pretty sure the video for this song has 3 guys in it, and they are playing an outdoor concert with lots of girls freaking out and being very happy to be there etc. The tune is very simple, with sort of a na-na-na kinda beat.

Great thread possibilities! I remember New Years eve at Andales' in Puerto Vallarta, 1998, with the crowd really into the choruses of "Alice, Alice, who the XXXX is Alice?", some new Aussie song.

Thanks so much to everyone who was thinking about my song! To the naysayers, I knew it was a long shot, but the thorn tree people are usually so very helpful and know so many things, I thought it was worth a try...

and you came through! It was De Drodillas Te Pido! I am just thrilled. Many many many thanks and kudos to Altahabana for helping me out!

and thanks to ranchland cause that was the other part of the thread...hearing what other songs you have memories for. When I was in Thailand in 2002 Tracy Chapman's Fast car CD was playing everywhere. And shakira. India was all about the DHOOM soundtrack...ah, bollywood!

I am going to PM a big thank you to Altahabana, but I am going to check out some of the other suggestions to put together a "remember Mexico" playlist.

Best wishes!

If you like Norteña----the style of the song you were looking for----I would strongly recomend Pesado, the most popular Norteña group in Mexico. Ojalá que te mueras, Te Quiero Te Amo and Por Ella are classics. Intocable which was mentioned by another poster is also an excellent Norteña band. Their song Aire may be the best Norteña song ever recorded.

Thank you by the way for replying and for your thoughtful PM.

Video: De Rodillas Te Pido.

I like the shot of the guy making a phone call by the side of the road in LA. The song .... eh .... if I were in the cantina I'd probably like it.
