Solo male traveler here, 57. I recently booked a flight into Cancun for a month to wander the Mayan Backpacker Trail. Plan to head south to Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, Mahahual, Chetumal, Ambrigris Caye, and maybe Caulker Caye. Been to the Cancun/Playa/Cozumel/Chichen Itza areas before. I enjoy snorkeling, cenotes, Mayan ruins, discount travel, hiking, and seeing things I've never seen before.
Seeking tips for things to do/see, places to go, ways to save money, etc. Can someone tell me how to leave Mexico on the ferry to Belize and avoid paying some of the departure taxes/fees - - I have been told that if I have the right documents I can save on these fees.
Also, If anyone is interested in meeting up on the trail, and/or traveling along let me know. I plan to arrive in Cancun Sept 23 and return Oct 22. I prefer to stay in frugal accommodations, use buses/ferries, and hike/walk around a lot. Will be bringing a diving mask but no fins as I only use a single carry-on size bag with me and pack very light. May check into an all-inclusive resort on the way back for a number of days to live it up.
