The Barcelo is VERY popular among the Mexicans here in Oaxaca. Just chill and enjoy it. You can explore the surroundings another time. There will be plenty to eat, drink and entertain you at the Barcelo. There are all kinds of vacation options on this Globe of ours. Why not just enjoy the in-laws and what Barcelo has to offer? Sometimes, it's best to just go with the flow rather than try to buck it. There will be tours, boat trips, kayaking, etc. etc. offered at Barcelo and perhaps your in-laws will be more comfortable exploring that way.

Yes I agree, I should just relax and enjoy the Barcelo, especially since it's costing me more for the 5 days there than I spent during a whole month in San Agustinillo/Mazunte! Besides I shouldn't complain -- the majority of this world who live on less than $2 a day can only dream of such a vacation.
