Well, long story short my wingman bailed on me and now I'm stuck alone in southern mexico. Any suggestions?? I was thinking of some beach time, joungle, ruins, hostels, and hopefully meeting some new friends. I was thinking Palenque, Yaxchilan, Puerto Arista. Is this cool? any good hostels, places to see? Any suggestions are good, I'm flying solo possibly into Tuxtla on March 30th to April 9th

You are also flying in smack in the middle of Easter week. Be aware that Mexicans will be flocking like lemmings to the beach...though it is kinda cool if there are cliffs. But you should try and reserve beach accomodations by last week. You are going to have to be flexible.
You gotta be real lonesome...Mebbe, if you chatter like you post,(15 the first day)there is a reason the "wingman" flew...carracar
I suppose howeve, if I had just one shot at compuer time I would cast a wide net as well...Check hostels.com for specifics there are hostels in Palenque, S.D. Casas, Oaxaca & not much else..."good" depends on your expectations...carracar
San Christobal de las Casas is great - there are loads of hostels there, you'll be harassed by touts as soon as you get off the bus. Have a look at what they have on offer (you could even check out the hostel(s) it/themselves), you might find something to your likely. Otherwise, stick to one of the first three mentioned in the LP. You're sure to meet lots of other people at those places. I stayed at the Magic Hostel a couple of years ago - great place, no idea if it's still there...

I've been to SC lots of times. Never run into the touts. More often than not there is a shortage of hotel rooms. It's one of the towns that if you don't arrive by 4pm it gets tough. Last trip the bus was delayed , we arrived at 7pm, one of our group was really sick so we grabbed a taxi. Went to 5 hotels before we could find a room. Trip before that I arrived at 3pm and had to go to three hotels before I got a room.
