Anyone know the distance-cab fare from the Monterrey airport and the main bus station? How often to busses travel from Monterrey to Austin? Recommendations on bus companies?
Thanks in advance, Avasia Air offers a quick plane trip for only $55US from Leon to Monterrey and I'd like to try it out.

Check out the website for autobusesamericanos. They have regular service from Monterrey to Austin and the schedule is on the website. I just took Americanos from Durango, Dgo., México to Albuquerque, New Mexico and back and the service was good. I would have rated it excellent, but one of the four buses—all primera clase—had seats very close together, almost as bad as tourist class on the airlines, today. This was the first time I have encountered this "crowding" on mexican primera clase buses. Here's the link: Autobuses Americanos

The airport is a long way from the city center---probably 25-30 minutes by taxi depending on traffic conditions. The fare will be somewhere between 250-300 pesos. I do not believe there is public bus service.
Bus service between Austin and Monterrey is pretty good. The previous poster mentions Americanos but there are other options. The Larpman site has some information. I would recommend picking up one of the free Spanish language papers in Austin as they will have ads for various carriers. Turimex, a part of the SENDA group of companies also has service.
Be careful though and don't cut your connection time for a flight too close. There can be a considerable delay when crossing by bus at Nuevo Laredo. For example this morning at 6am there were probably 10 buses lined up on the bridge waiting to cross between the US and Mexico.
