Hi All

Does anyone have any advice on getting from Mexico City to Dallas? The flights i have found on line seem quite expensive. What are buses from Mexico to Dallas like? Cheap? Comfortable? How long would it take by bus?

I'll be travelling in June.

Cheers

Cheap, definitely not, you will be lucky to save $100 at most by taking the bus. Comfortable? Well until you get to the US it can be, but then it will be slow and on much lower standard of bus as US bus service is terrible.

Maybe the issue is you are looking for a one-way flight? You probably just need to wait awhile, flights generally are cheap in a shorter time window. Cheap June flights probably won't be available until April.

A couple of airlines were almost giving away the seats to some Mexico cities from Texas this and next week. If you're flexible as to travel dates, there are deals out there - you have to keep your eyes open though.

If you have the time, Americanos/Amigos has a bus leaving from the North Station every evening about 6 pm for Dallas... however it's about a 24-26 hour trip. Last time I did it, cost was around 1000 pesos.

If you take the bus to cross the border, you may have considerable delays, as INS checks out the passengers rigorously. Our American neighbor recently had an 8-hour delay at the Laredo, TX port of entry.

Kstokes -- I don't want to suggest the obvious here, but have you searched kayak.com? I just did a quick search of a random round-trip in the middle of June and there was a flight for around $300. I guess it depends on how much you want to save compared to the time it will take you for travel...

#5 has a good point. Can you get a round trip ticket for close to the same price or less? Do you have any use for a return flight in the future? Buena suerte

If you are nor interested in a round trip ticket alternatively you could fly to houston, and then go overland to dallas. Aviacsa.com.mx has one way flights from Mexico City to houston from 176 UDS (taxes included in the price).

On the bus? That's the first time I've ever heard of that happening.

On my last trip across the border by bus, it was not 8 hours but could have been for some of the buses in line. They not only run all luggage through a scanner but you must stand outside and wait while they search and then scan the entire bus front to back with some new hi tech (but slow) equipment they now use. The scan itself can take an hour or more so , if serveral buses in line, you can see the delay potential. And, to make it worse, the US officials tell you nothing about what is happening.
I was lucky--after standing around for awhile and knowing my Laredo hotel was in walking distance, I ask the US officer if I could just walk out of there. He said, sure, so I was on my way!
