I'm going to be in Mexico City next weekend, which is great. Only trouble is, I'm not feeling very optimistic of being able to watch the South Africa-Australia World Cup cricket match on Saturday March 24. Anyone who knows of somewhere like an Aussie pub that might just have access to the right TV channels would be doing me a gigantic favour by telling me where it is.

it's a long shot, but if you guys can't help then nobody can!

Thanks
Richard

I do not know about crickets in Mexico but:

In Mexico, grasshoppers and other edible insects are sold by the pound in village markets and are fried before being eaten. Many are sold in cans as fried grasshoppers, chocolate covered ants, etc. Tortillas are served with red and white agave worms in many Mexico city restaurants.

>edible insects

I wonder if they can be beaten into a paste using a cricket bat...

Actually NINA most Americans who are familiar with baseball have an awareness of cricket. Afterall, baseball---which by the way is very popular in Mexico-- is a simpler streamlined adaptation of the game.

There was actually a thread on this a few days ago. The ICC has licensed the right to telecast the matches over the world. EchoStar apparantly has the rights for parts of North/Central America. This is a link.

World Cup Cricket

I think you will have a problem. Even moreso than idiot Americans, idiot Mexicans have less awareness of or interest in cricket. Your thought about a pub/bar catering to nationals of countries where cricket is popular would probably be your best bet. On the other thread a poster linked to a website by a Cricket organization in Mexico. You might look there for other tips.

Maybe call the Aussie embassy - they might have a spot where their employees will be watching the game? Or is there a way to pay to watch cricket over the internet (we've done that with other stuff through? - this link might have some info:

Ninataka... does your poor, failed life permit you to say anything without exhibiting your envy of those who have been more successful than you? What's the matter....did a real estate developer take over your street corner? Clean up with some lysol and crawl back under your rock.

I'm afraid unless you're someplace with echoStar or ESPN2, you'd be hard presed to find a cricket match (game?, outing?.... sorry, I'm one of those idiot Americans who knows baseball, not cricket) anywhere.

I lived in Houston for a number of years, and the Indian, Jamaican, Oz-trail-yun programmers and engineers had the same problem... though there were enough of them to sometimes put together a few Saturday afternoon games.

It's like trying to find the NY Yankees or Cruz Azul game on TV in the Ukraine, I'm afraid.

You ought to check out a bar called the "Black Horse" (I am pretty sure that's its name), on calle Mexicali, just off of Tamaulipas in La Condesa. Its run by a guy from the UK, and attracts alot of the local Brits.
