Never been in Mexico but we bought our plane tickets, going mid-January to mid-April.

We have to find an equipped apartment, in a safe neighborhood, close to a town market for fresh food?

We are a retired couple, quiet, non smoking, no pets, the ideal renters!

Need some Advice from those who know, please?

looks like Manzanillo town centre is better suited for a market, Melaque and Barra de Navidad are probably too small.

Suggest you rent a hotel room to start and see the neighbourhoods and places for rent in person.

Hi mclarjh

if I don't reserve now, will there be any places left to rent mid January?

What do you know of a safe neighbourhood near the center?

Melaque and Barra de Navidad. I have not stayed in either of these places recently but was told they have become a bit of a party town for Canadian snow birds. I personally enjoyed Manzanillo finding it very laid back and non touristy for a city of it's size. Nice beaches. good restaurants & friendly locals.

Along the Pacific coast towns they have Bungalows which are 1 or 2 bedroom and a kitchen, very similar to an apartment...
You write ""What do you know of a safe neighbourhood near the center?"" center of witch town? you mention 3 towns, all the towns you mention have grocery stores.......

I have some neighbours who go to Melaque every winter. They go down and then arrange a place to stay, they say they pay cdn$500 a month. They have seasonal work and I would say not a lot of spare cash. But they go there in November. When I asked them about it they said it might not be as easy in January (I was asking for someone else) to find somewhere really affordable.

Thanks stewbear, Manzanillo sounds to be the better place to find an apartment. What neighborhood would be safe and near the town enter? is there a public market in town?

I never had a moments anxiety in Manzanillo staying at the La Posada a lovely quaint hotel with excellent breakfasts, a gorgeous view in the common areas a a great courtyard view with pool. IMO a great place to stay while you explore for a apartment. Not sure about food market but a regular "Tingus" (a market of many hand made items). Near the hotel is several decent cafes.
The Centro area is not touristy but a real downtown with lots of stores, shops, markets etc plus a lovely waterfront.
