A couple of years ago I read a review featuring a small restaurant near or on the beach in Tulum, run by a chef (who is somewhat successful in the USA) and his wife. Daily menu features were whatever he created that day based on local catches and purchases. I seem to remember reading that patrons had to walk along the beach to get to the restaurant.
Has anyone heard of this restaurant, and is it still open?

You might mean Posada Margherita, Italian-themed, about mid-hotel-zone on the Tulum beach road.
Or you might mean Hechizo, more fusion, just before the entrance to the biosphere. Husband is the chef; wife is the pastry chef.
Those are considered the best two restaurants in the area, I'm led to believe.
I'm headed there in 12 days!

I do remember somebody mentioning this to me when I was there. I think it is only on certain nights of the week and is right up the top end of the beach road (furthest from ruins). I believe you go and he just cooks up in dinner party type fashion whatever he wants. I am sorry I do not have a name, but I do remember it was still available.

Yes, that is the one! I remember it is "dinner-party" type. Does anyone know the name, or is Hechizo that one? I am also heading there in 12 days!!

Zamas Check it out!!!They have a wonderful "Al Fresco" restaurant on the beach,and little palapa style houses on the beach,i myself like the suites across the road.Especially the ones on the 1st floor,they have a beautiful view on the see!It's my dream place deffinitly.People come to eat there from every where,and it's true that it depends on the catch of the day what you eat!Hope it's the one you where looking for!Boutique resort

Yeah, I def think your talking about Hechizo, I just made reservations for a birthday diner in May. They are very easy to get in touch with and will respond very quickly. I have heard so many great things about the restaurant. I can't wait.
