Has anyone stayed here? I have searched the Palenque and Mexico threads and cannot find any match. It looks like it is out near the ruins-El Panchan area. They seem to have a lot of adverts out there, but no other mentions. Thanks in advance. We will be in Palenque next week.

Between El Panchon and Mayabel on the route to the entrance to the ruins of Palenque are two very small Campgrounds with some primative cabanas. I didnt find out their names but these were lower budget than El Panchon and Mayabel. Maybe it is one of these.

Personally I like Mayabel as it is so close to the ruins. If you look at the detail maps Mayabel and the upper campground are built on Mayan stepped platforms.

There is a path into the jungle from the Palenque ruins that they did not let me follow to an indigenous village, but I think it has a different name than that.

La Aldea is on the left side, about half way in to the ruins, just passed Los Leones (on the right side).
It used to consist of 2 bed cabanas, with communal toilets, a small pool and restaurant. It was always very clean. It is on the hill overlooking the valley, and is a great place to watch the birds flying in and out, morning and evening.
It was sold about 6 years ago, and the new owner has built self contained units in behind the original ones. They are quite luxurious, and were just set to open last time we were there, 3 years ago.
Most people without their own vehicle arrive by cab, but the collectivo to the ruins passes by the gate.
