I read somwhere that it was recommended to wear water shoes while swimming on Isla to protect against sting rays. We will only be swimming around Playa Norte and Playa Secreto and by the bridge at the top..
Are shoes really necesary.. i hate packing too much stuff? Thanks and Happy Holidays.

I swam around there in May and IMO no shoes necessary at all.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

I´ve swum there and did see a sting ray lift off the bottom. I didn´t have anything on my feet, but was aware of the risk so shuffled my feet entering and exiting the water, otherwise kept my feet off the bottom.

You could probably rent some flippers while you´re there if you´re concerned.

The rays are few and very small and are off like a bullet before you get anywhere near them. Shoes won't do you any good anyhow, the flip of the tail would sting you somewhere on your leg not your feet.
