Considering going to Puerto Vallarta at the end of August. Wife is not keen on it, given the average high temperatures of 95F (with common afternoon thunderstorms) I have found so far. Mexico City would, we know, be more temperate. Would we be nuts to go to PV at that time?
Remember it 's not the 95º that's so bad it's the 100% humidity...my experence with rain is that it would arrive late afternoon and last about an hour...I say go to PV and if it gets to hot then bus up to Guadalajara (5 hours) at about 5000 feet elevation...suerte
You can go up to the Sierras, San Sebastian or Mascota in only 2 hours.
BTW the 'average' high is a lot less than 95ºF, 95ºF is more like the max high.
Mean temp is more like 85ºF and average humidity is 80%
August is the hottest month of the year in PV. Average daily high is 90°F and average daily low is 76°F; highest recorded August temperature is 102°F and lowest is 70°F; average morning relative humidity is 92% and average evening relative humidity is 70%. August is also the rainiest month of the year in PV. Average number of days with thunderstorms: 15. And the average number of days in August when the daily high temperature is 90°F or more is 24.

Puerto Vallarta is gorgeous. You will get used to the humidity pretty quick, especially if you hang out by the pool or the beach, getting wet. plus it really is not that bad. you'll have a great time. and if you want a bigger city, Guadalajara is beautiful too.

i was in PV (well just north) sept-dec and don't think i would go down again during the "humid" season, unless it was just a week at a beachfront air cond hotel
the humidity is very very trying. as in 8 o clock at night, sun down, eating dinner in your underwear sweating effing bullets

Right now is the hottest time of the year in Mexico and is not a good time to go. The months of March-June are very hot, dry and bleak especially along the Pacific coast.
Yesterday in Veracruz, it was 102 degrees with a heat factor of 112 and it will get worse during the next 60 days. Relief will come when the seasonal rains start around mid June, and the countryside will become lush and green again. There will be a lot more fresh fruits like mangos.
August is a great month with the fresh rains each day in most of Mexico. The coasts will be warm and the highlands will be cool and nice. You can take your choice.
